Sexual behavior and conflicted phenomenon of cultures

Abstract

In the current day and age, the lines of distinctions and conflict between different sexual behaviors and cultures are starting to blur. This multiplicity of variances often confuses and forces one to rethink the cultural dogmas which they abide to.

Taking this as a starting point, I explore the culture of a Phuthai located in MaeKhong river area in Thailand, that has shaped my perception on certain sexual taboos. Within my thesis ‘Sexual behavior and conflicted phenomenon of cultures’, I employ a combination of performance art and installation as an attempt at self-exploration and also to question notions of beliefs and culture.

ความขัดแย้งระหว่างพฤติกรรมทางเพศที่เห็นได้ในปัจจุบัน กับขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีที่เราเชื่อถือและปฏิบัติตามต่อกันมาจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น ก่อให้เกิดคำถามและความสบสนซึ่งกลายมาเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของผลงานวิทยานิพนธ์ ‘พฤติกรรมทางเพศกับปรากฏการณ์ทางวัฒนธรรมที่ขัดแย้ง’ โดยใช้การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะเป็นช่องทางเพื่อสำรวจความคิดภายในตนเองและสืบค้นข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อเรื่องเพศของต้นกำเนิด ซึ่งคือกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ภูไทที่มีถิ่นอาศัยอยู่บริเวณลุ่มแม่น้ำโขงหรือภาคอีสานของประเทศไทย ด้วยการนำความเชื่อและข้อปฏิบัติในเรื่องเพศของชาวภูไทมาเป็นข้อมูลหลักในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน ผนวกเข้ากับการคิดวิเคราะห์ เชื่อมโยง และสร้างสรรค์ด้วยกระบวนการทางทัศนศิลป์ นำเสนอโดยใช้สื่อศิลปะแสดงสดและศิลปะจัดวางที่สามารถสะท้อนแนวความคิด ความสับสน และทำให้เกิดการตั้งคำถามกับผู้ชมต่อความย้อนแย้งของวัฒนธรรมและพฤติกรรมทางเพศ
