The Use of Task-based Learning to Enhance English Oral Presentation Skill for 1st Year Students, Silpakorn University

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the students’ oral presentation skill before and after using the task-based learning, and 2) survey the students’ satisfactions toward the task-based learning. The sample consisted of 35 first-year undergraduate students, Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Technology, Silpakorn University, enrolled in English Skills Development class during the second semester of the academic year 2016. The research instruments were: 1) four task-based lesson plans, 2) direct test of an oral presentation skill, 3) rubric of an oral presentation skill, and 4) a questionnaire to survey the students’ satisfactions toward the task-based learning. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test independent.

The result of the study were as follows: 1) The students’ oral presentation skill after studying through the task-based learning was significantly higher than before studying through the task-based learning at the .05 level and 2) The students’ satisfactions toward the task-based learning were at the highest level.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถการพูดนำเสนอภาษาอังกฤษของกลุ่มตัวอย่างก่อนและหลังใช้การจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงาน และ 2) ศึกษาระดับความพึงพอใจของกลุ่มตัวอย่างที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงาน กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือ นักศึกษาระดับปริญญาบัณฑิตชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีอุตสาหกรรม มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร จำนวน 35 คน ที่กำลังศึกษาวิชาการพัฒนาทักษะภาษาอังกฤษ ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2559 โดยได้จากการสุ่มอย่างง่าย เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในงานวิจัยได้แก่ 1) แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงานจำนวน 4 แผน 2) แบบทดสอบวัดความสามารถการพูดนำเสนอภาษาอังกฤษ 3) เกณฑ์การประเมินความสามารถการพูดนำเสนอภาษาอังกฤษ และ 4) แบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจของผู้เรียนที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงาน สถิติที่ใช้ในการศึกษาได้แก่ ค่าร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และ ค่าสถิติทดสอบ t แบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) ความสามารถการพูดนำเสนอภาษาอังกฤษของกลุ่มตัวอย่างหลังเรียนด้วยการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงานสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ .05 และ 2) ความพึงพอใจของกลุ่มตัวอย่างต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบเน้นภาระงานอยู่ในระดับมากที่สุด
