THE ANALYSIS OF WALKING BASS LINE BY RAY BROWN

Abstract

This research is an analysis of Ray Brown's walking bassline method from the album 'Tenderly (with Herb Ellis & Ray Brown). The researcher identified the notes of all 9 songs by learning the following methods: 1. Mixolydian Mode on chord ii-V 2. Mixolydian Mode sharp 11 3. Walking basslines in melodic sequence 4. Skipping Tones 5. Chord Tone 6. Extension notes 7. Passing Tones.

The result shows that Chord Tones and Passing Tones are frequently used in Ray Brown's walking basslines. Numbers of frequency are included in the conclusion section. It depicts the bassist's exceptional and unique characteristics, which can be applied in other songs with similar chords structure and a case study for further studies on Ray Brown's walking basslines.

งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้ศึกษาวิธีการเดินเบสของ เรย์ บราวน์ จากอัลบั้ม Tenderly (with Herb Ellis & Ray Brown) เพื่อประยุกต์ใช้ในการเดินเบสด้วยการถอดโน้ตทุกเพลง เป็นจำนวนทั้งหมด 9 เพลง โดยศึกษาวิธีการใช้ 1.โมดมิกโซลิเดียนบนการดำเนินคอร์ดแบบ ii-V 2. การใช้โมดมิกโซลิเดียนชาร์ป 11 3. การซีเควนซ์ทำนอง 4. การใช้โน้ตกระโดด 5. การใช้โน้ตในคอร์ด 6. การใช้โน้ตส่วนขยาย 7. การใช้โน้ตผ่าน

จากการศึกษาผู้วิจัยพบว่า เรย์ บราวน์ ให้ความสำคัญกับการใช้โน้ตในคอร์ดและการใช้โน้ตผ่าน ในการเดินเบส โดยผู้วิจัยได้สรุปเป็นจำนวนครั้งในบทสรุปผลการวิจัย ทำให้เห็นความเป็นเอกลักษณ์และ ความโดดเด่นของ เรย์ บราวน์ ได้อย่างชัดเจน ซึ่งสามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้กับบทเพลงที่มีโครงสร้างทางเดิน คอร์ดที่คล้ายคลึงกันได้และสามารถเป็นแนวทางกรณีศึกษาการเดินเบสของ เรย์ บราวน์ ต่อไป
