Land Stitch

Abstract

The study and creation of art in this thesis aimed to produce creative arts to be witnessed in the border area of Thailand and Cambodia, in order to foster mutual friendship and good intention while diminishing the line that separated the two modern nations. It is indeed the process of “Land Stitch” in which the realities that influenced the people of the two countries were reflected. The process shed the light and helped us understand the causes of conflicts, leading to numerous wars in the past and leaving behind a great number of undetonated bombs. The recent war occurred in early 2011 due to the dispute over the overlapped areas around Preah Vihear Temple. The casualties were not strictly limited to military men, but also civilians residing in the areas of conflicts.

It is, therefore, the intention of the author to heal the wounds of the past conflict by creating artworks through painting on new prosthetic legs. This process was based on mutual participation between Thai and Cambodian people with disabilities and the artists. The new created prosthetic legs will be given to needed people, in exchange of the worn-down artificial legs.

This Process Art began with the investigation of studied areas inside and outside Thailand. It also involved communication with the interested volunteers and the completion of field activities. The outcomes of the Process Art were then displayed in the exhibition hall. It was a cross-collaboration between art and prosthetics, Medical Technology. The ultimate goal was to uplift the quality of life for people and help them perform their daily activities most effectively. It is hopeful that this study can be a part to remedy mental wounds while creating pleasant experiences from the participation through the creation of arts on the disabled’s legs.

การศึกษาและสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะภาคสนามในพื้นที่ชายแดนไทย-กัมพูชา เกิดมิตรภาพและไมตรีจิตที่ดีต่อกันสลายเส้นแบ่งพรมแดนรัฐชาติสมัยใหม่ ก่อเกิดการเย็บแผ่นดิน อีกทั้งสะท้อนความเป็นจริงของพื้นที่อันส่งผลกระทบต่อประชาชนสองประเทศ สาเหตุจากความขัดแย้งจนเกิดสงครามการสู้รบในอดีตหลายครั้งครา ทำให้ยังหลงเหลือกับระเบิดเป็นจำนวนมาก สงครามครั้งหลังสุดในช่วงต้นปีพ.ศ. 2554 กรณีพิพาทในพื้นที่ทับซ้อนบริเวณโดยรอบปราสาทเขาพระวิหาร ผู้ที่บาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิตนอกจากทหารแล้วยังมีประชาชน ที่อาศัยอยู่บริเวณความขัดแย้ง

ข้าพเจ้าจึงปรารถนาจะเยียวยาบาดแผลความขัดแย้งในอดีต ด้วยกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะ โดยวิธีการสร้างสรรค์ลวดลาย จิตรกรรม ลงบนขาเทียมใหม่จากการมีส่วนร่วมระหว่างผู้พิการขาขาดจากกับระเบิดทั้งชาวไทยและกัมพูชากับศิลปิน คนทำงานศิลปะ แล้วจึงนำ ขาเทียมใหม่ที่ได้ไปมอบพร้อมกับแลกขาเทียมเก่าที่ผุพัง ลักษณะการสร้างสรรค์เน้นไปที่กระบวนการ (Process) ศิลปะเกิดขึ้นตั่งแต่สำรวจแสวงหาพื้นที่ทั้งภายในและภายนอกประเทศ ติดต่อประสานงานผู้ร่วมงานจิตอาสา จวบจนดำเนินกิจกรรมศิลปะภาคสนามสำเร็จ จึงนำผลผลิตจากกระบวนการที่ได้มาจัดแสดงในห้องนิทรรศการ เป็นการร่วมงานข้ามศาสตร์ระหว่างศิลปะกับกายอุปกรณ์ เทคนิคทางการแพทย์ เพื่อให้ผู้เคราะห์ร้ายเหล่านั้นได้มีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดีขึ้น ประกอบกิจกรรมทางสังคมได้เหมือนดังคนปกติมากที่สุด ทั้งยังเยียวยาบาดแผลทางใจ ได้รับความเพลิดเพลิน และภาคภูมิใจในการมีส่วนร่วมสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะลงบนขาของตนเอง
