Shellfish in Cosmology in the Mural Paintings of three worlds the early Rattanakosin period

Abstract

This research aimed to study the meaning, the symbol, the correlating design related to the beliefs aquatic animals, in cosmic landscape of Tribhum story in early Rattanakosin period, of ancient, artisans who created murals paintings in four temples: Wat Khongkaram, Wat Ratsitaram, Wat Yai-intharam, and Wat Sutatthepwararam In order to convey their concept as well as the correlation. In the world of science relating to aquatic animals in the cosmic landscape. The findings revealed as follows.

The mural paintings design in four temples Rattanakosin period appeared the story of Tribhum inherited from Tribhum picture book in Ayutthaya period, Considered to be the unique of painting, well element setting of paintings and the focus on cosmic system in the scene of the Great River of Sitandon showing the power of water space where aquatic animals assembled. There were clearly presented through the story of aquatic animals in India where the story of imaginary fish was created as well as their reproductions with the biped , four-footed animals and even with human beings called “mermaid”. The way they created aquatic animals had correlation with the world science especially the seven big fish and animals in Himmapan.

The artisans also expressed the correlation of the beliefs to the imaginary model of animals in Himmapan, It was found that the artisans designed some kinds of aquatic animals correlating to their ways of lives in their painting too. This was another one answer that the artisans created mural painting in terms of aquatic animals in the scene of cosmic landscape in accord with the lifestyle in each area besides creative imagination from religious scripture.

การค้นคว้างานวิจัยฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายของการศึกษาความหมาย สัญลักษณ์ รูปแบบความสัมพันธ์และเชื่อมโยงกับความเชื่อ ของสัตว์น้ำในภูมิจักรวาลของเรื่องไตรภูมิในมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้นของช่างโบราณที่วาดขึ้นบนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังของทั้งสี่วัด ได้แก่ วัดคงคาราม วัดใหญ่อินทาราม วัดราชสิทธาราม และ วัดสุทัศนเทพวราราม เพื่อให้เห็นแนวคิดของช่างโบราณ รวมถึงความสัมพันธ์ในคัมภีร์โลกศาสตร์ที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับเรื่องราวสัตว์น้ำในฉากภูมิจักรวาล ผลของการศึกษามีดังนี้

จากรูปแบบงานจิตรกรรมฝาผนังของทั้งสี่วัดที่อยู่สมัยรัตนโกสินทร์มีการเขียนเรื่องราวไตรภูมิที่สืบเนื่องต่อกันมาจากรูปแบบการเขียนในสมุดภาพไตรภูมิสมัยอยุธยา ถือเป็นแบบแผนที่มีเอกลักษณ์ของงานจิตรกรรม การจัดองค์ประกอบในจิตรกรรมฝาผนังและเป็นการเน้นระบบจักรวาล ฉากที่เป็นมหานทีสีทันดรเป็นห้วงพลังแห่งน้ำที่แสดงพลังของเหล่าสัตว์น้ำได้มีการนำเสนออย่างชัดเจน โดยใช้เรื่องราวของสัตว์น้ำในหิมพานต์ที่อยู่ในดินแดนชมพูทวีปที่เน้นเรื่องราวของตัวปลาที่มีการจินตนาการจากธรรมชาติและการผสมผสานระหว่างปลากับสัตว์จตุบาทและสัตว์ทวิบาท รวมถึงผสมกับมนุษย์เรียกว่า เงือก การเขียนสัตว์น้ำนี้ช่างมีแนวคิดการเชื่อมโยงจากคัมภีร์โลกศาสตร์ที่บัญญัติเรื่องโดยเฉพาะเรื่อง ปลาใหญ่ ทั้งเจ็ด และสัตว์หิมพานต์

นอกจากการสร้างสรรค์จากจินตนาการและความเชื่อแล้วช่างผู้วาดได้นำรูปแบบจากความเชื่อเชื่อมโยงสู่การจินตนาการจากรูปแบบหุ่นสัตว์หิมพานต์ นอกจากนี้ในการเขียนภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังพบว่าการเขียนสัตว์น้ำบางประเภทช่างได้เขียนให้มีความสัมพันธ์ในพื้นถิ่นวิถีชีวิตสอดแทรกเข้ามาในงานจิตรกรรมฝาผนังเป็นอีกหนึ่งคำตอบว่านอกเหนือจากการจินตนาการและจากเรื่องราวในคัมภีร์ทางพระพุทธศาสนา ช่างผู้วาดได้สร้างสรรค์งานจิตรกรรมฝาผนังสัตว์น้ำในฉากภูมิจักรวาลโดยให้สอดคล้องกับวิถีชีวิตตามแต่ละพื้นที่
