Isan Himmaphan Creatures

Abstract

Isan or Northeastern region has associated with Buddhism for a long time, and it becomes arts, cultures, traditions, and practice in coexistence, which we called Heet Sip Song Kong Sip See. I was born surrounded by Isan cultural and traditional way of life, in a family of craftsmen who build the lent candles, Isan folk wisdom in Ubon Ratchathani Province. I have been also studying and learning processes of creation and making lent wax candles.

Therefore, it paves to the study of Northeastern Buddhist arts generated by folk wisdom of local craftsmen, conveying the pivotal senses to the next generation. The arts are in the types of Himmapan creatures stucco sculpture decorating on Buddhist building, Hooptam mural painting, Vessantara cloth painting, wood carving, and various Buddhist arts that are left until now for local craftsmen’s faith study, which are created in simple shapes in harmony of the sensation. It reflects the soul of Isan local craftsmen towards their faith in Buddhism. I am then inspired from Isan local craftsmen’s attainment, leading to the creation of the thesis “Isan Himmapan Creatures”, demonstrated by techniques of lent candle making via 3D of thoughts and imagination mixture to show values and wisdom of Isan local craftsmen.

ภูมิภาคอีสานมีความเชื่อความศรัทธาเกี่ยวข้องกับพระพุทธศาสนามายาวนาน จนเกิดเป็นศิลปะ วัฒนธรรม ประเพณีและหลักปฏิบัติในการอยู่ร่วมกัน คือฮีตสิบสองคองสิบสี่ ข้าพเจ้าได้กำเนิดในวิถีวัฒนธรรมประเพณีความเป็นอีสาน เกิดในครอบครัวช่างทำต้นเทียนพรรษาที่เป็นภูมิปัญญาช่างพื้นบ้านอีสานในจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ทั้งได้ศึกษาและเรียนรู้กระบวนการสร้างสรรค์และลงมือปฏิบัติในการทำต้นเทียนพรรษามาโดยตลอด

จนนำมาสู่การศึกษางานพุทธศิลป์อีสาน อันเกิดจากภูมิปัญญาช่างพื้นถิ่นที่ได้ถ่ายทอดออกมาให้คนรุ่นหลังได้ศึกษา ทั้งในรูปแบบงานประติมากรรมปูนปั้นสัตว์หิมพานต์ต่างๆที่ประดับตามศาสนอาคาร งานจิตรกรรมฝาผนังฮูปแต้ม จิตรกรรมผ้าผะเหวดสันดร งานแกะสลักไม้ และงานพุทธศิลป์ต่างๆที่ยังคงเหลือในปัจจุบันให้ได้ศึกษาความเชื่อความศรัทธาของช่างพื้นบ้านที่สร้างสรรค์ออกมาแบบเรียบง่ายในรูปทรงที่งดงามตามความรู้สึก สะท้อนให้เห็นจิตวิญญาณความเป็นช่างพื้นบ้านอีสานต่อความศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนา ข้าพเจ้าจึงเกิดแรงบันดาลใจจากภูมิปัญญาช่างพื้นถิ่นอีสานจนนำมาสู่การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิทยานิพนธ์ในชุด "สัตว์หิมพานต์อีสาน" แสดงออกด้วยเทคนิคกระบวนการทำเทียน ผ่านรูปทรงลักษณะ 3 มิติ ที่ผสมผสานความคิดและจินตนาการ เพื่อแสดงถึงคุณค่าและภูมิปัญญาช่างพื้นถิ่นอีสาน
