Phra Non Kham Luang: The Study as Texts on Poetics

Abstract

This thesis aims to examine the characteristics of Thai poetic text, dominant poetic features, and composition techniques in Phra Non Kham Luang, a royal literary work of King Rama VI.

As King Rama VI intended to promote Thai poetry, he developed qualifications of Thai poetic texts, known as Thai Texts on Poetics, which specifies theoretical and practical principles of Thai poems, and the Thai Texts on Poetics is relied upon for this study. The findings reveal that the Phra Non Kham Luang agrees with those principles. It is a source of knowledge about composition and convention of different types of poem. The examination of dominant poetic features shows the use of spell (which is a custom of Kham Luang poem), the composition convention suitable for the content, the use of various poetic patterns, and the specification of shared poetic convention. The composition techniques used in this royal work emphasizes on aesthetic value which is the role model of poetic works. The sounds, words, and content used in this work properly and outstandingly serve the aesthetic purpose of poetics.

It can be concluded that the royal work Phra Non Kham Luang possess all characteristics of Thai poetic text specified by King Rama VI, and its characteristics, features, and techniques are suitable for beginner poem writers to follow.

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาลักษณะความเป็นตำราประพันธศาสตร์และลักษณะเด่นในด้านฉันทลักษณ์และด้านกลวิธีการแต่งในเรื่องพระนลคำหลวง พระราชนิพนธ์ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว โดยศึกษาจากตัวบทพระราชนิพนธ์เรื่องพระนลคำหลวง

ผลการศึกษาพบว่าพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงมีพระราชดำริในการส่งเสริมการประพันธ์ร้อยกรองของไทย โดยทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ตำราประพันธศาสตร์เชิงทฤษฎีและเชิงปฏิบัติ ซึ่งเป็นการให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับรูปแบบของฉันทลักษณ์และแสดงแบบแผนของการประพันธ์ ซึ่งพระราชนิพนธ์เรื่องพระนลคำหลวง มีลักษณะเป็นตำราประพันธศาสตร์อย่างเด่นชัด ดังจะเห็นได้จาก 1) ลักษณะความเป็นตำราประพันธศาสตร์ในเรื่องพระนลคำหลวง ได้แก่ การให้ความรู้ที่เกี่ยวกับ การประพันธ์ และ แบบแผนของฉันทลักษณ์ประเภทต่าง ๆ 2) ลักษณะเด่นด้านฉันทลักษณ์ในเรื่องพระนลคำหลวง ได้แก่ การใช้คาถาประกอบคำประพันธ์สืบทอดการแต่งวรรณคดีคำหลวง การเลือกใช้ฉันทลักษณ์ที่เหมาะสมกับเนื้อหา การเลือกใช้ฉันทลักษณ์ที่หลากหลาย และการกำหนดแบบแผนของฉันทลักษณ์ร่วมกัน 3) กลวิธีการสร้างความงามในเรื่องพระนลคำหลวง ซึ่งเป็นแบบอย่างในการประพันธ์วรรณคดีประเภทร้อยกรอง ได้แก่ การสร้างความไพเราะด้านเสียง การสร้างความงามด้านคำ และการสร้างความงามด้านเนื้อความ

ดังนั้นจะเห็นได้ว่าพระราชนิพนธ์เรื่องพระนลคำหลวง มีลักษณะเป็นตำราประพันธศาสตร์ทั้งเชิงทฤษฎีและเชิงปฏิบัติ ดังพระราชประสงค์ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวที่ทรงตั้ง พระราชหฤทัยให้พระราชนิพนธ์เรื่องพระนลคำหลวง เป็นตำราสำหรับผู้ฝึกหัดแต่งคำประพันธ์ได้ยึดถือเป็นแบบอย่างต่อไป
