Effects of Using the Practice Package with CIRC Technique to Promote English Reading Comprehension Skills of Eighth Graders

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) develop and test the efficiency of the practice package with CIRC technique following 75/75, 2) compare students’ English reading comprehension skills before and after using the practice package with CIRC technique, and 3) study students’ opinion about the practice package with CIRC technique. The research sample used for the study consisted of 37 eighth graders from Watjuntrawat(Sukprasarnrat) School during the 2nd semester of the 2020 academic year. They were selected by cluster random sampling. The research instruments were the practice package with CIRC technique, English reading comprehension test and the questionnaire surveying students’ opinion on the practice package with CIRC technique. The data were analyzed by mean (X̅) and standard deviation (S.D.) and t-test dependent.

The results of the research were:

1) The efficiency score of the practice package with CIRC technique was 75.81/76.15, which is higher than the expected criterion: 75/75.

2) The students’ English reading comprehension skills after using the practice package with CIRC technique was statistically significantly higher than before using the practice package with CIRC technique at .05 level.

3) The students’ opinions toward the practice package with CIRC technique was at the high level, (X̅ = 4.54, S.D.=0.12).

การอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 อาจารย์ที่ปรึกษาวิทยานิพนธ์ : อาจารย์ ดร. สรณบดินทร์ ประสารทรัพย์การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อพัฒนาและหาประสิทธิภาพของชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC ตามเกณฑ์ 75/75 2) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนก่อนและหลังเรียนด้วยชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC และ3) เพื่อศึกษาความคิดเห็นของนักเรียนที่มีต่อชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC ที่ผู้วิจัยสร้างขึ้น กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ห้อง 1 โรงเรียนวัดจันทราวาส (ศุขประสารราษฎร์) จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ที่เรียนในรายวิชาภาษาอังกฤษพื้นฐาน 4 (อ22102) ใช้วิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบกลุ่มโดยใช้ห้องเรียนเป็นหน่วยสุ่ม จำนวน 1 ห้อง รวม 37 คน ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2563 เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ประกอบด้วย ชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC แบบทดสอบวัดทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจ แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นที่มีต่อชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้ค่าเฉลี่ย (X̅) ค่าส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D.) และค่าสถิติทดสอบทีแบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน (t-test dependent)

ผลการวิจัย พบว่า

1. ผลการพัฒนาและหาประสิทธิภาพของชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC มีประสิทธิภาพเท่ากับ 75.81/76.15 ซึ่งเป็นไปตามเกณฑ์ที่ตั้งไว้

2. ทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนหลังเรียนสูงกว่าก่อนเรียนด้วยชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

3. ความคิดเห็นของนักเรียนที่มีต่อชุดฝึกทักษะร่วมกับเทคนิค CIRC มีความเห็นด้วยในระดับมากที่สุด (X̅ = 4.54, S.D.=0.12)
