THE RELATIONSHIP OF MINE AND GRANDMA

Abstract

This thesis “The Relationship of Mine and Grandma” is based on the concept of creating artwork with balanced aesthetic harmony originating from the word “family”. This word conveys a sense of love, affection, care and concern for each other in a relationship that involves mental and emotional conditions. These conditions are interwoven into memorable images that have been captured in our hearts and help guide us in the way we live our lives. By this, family ties refer to a group of people living together in a loving relationship that begins with the parents. In some families, this harmonious relationship is extended to include grandparents, cousins and relatives. In the case of my family, “Grandma” – who is my mother’s mother and has been physically handicapped by polio since birth, is a fighter at heart. Even though she uses a walking stick to get around, and in the eyes of other people is considered to be disabled, she never showed any signs of weakness and is always relentless. In fact, she proved to be strong willed and normal just like any other person. She raised my mother with love and affection filled with goodness that have also been passed on to me together with her wise words telling me that “A person’s value is not in his or her physical appearance, and no one is perfect. But it’s the thoughts and attitudes that matter and give meaning to life as well as bring about a peace of mind”. This has to do with emotional feelings, and the abstract beauty of it is the motivation for creating my artwork in the style of idealistic surrealism. The memorable aspects that are associated with time and places together with stories, events, thoughts and meanings that form the notion of “family” provide the basis for producing visual art images on flat two-dimensional plane by means of Lithographic Printmaking or Planographic Printing Process to convey the experiences that helped to refine the value and meaning of “family”. Such value is to be cherished and nurtured for the beauty and warmth it generates all around. The memories of my grandmother and I, symbolized by artistic elements composed in a harmonious way to express the mutual feelings that flow between us, are about the strength and will of a woman viewed by society as deformed and decrepit. In truth however, she is able survive in society with strong sense of pride and dignity. Therefore, this work is dedicated to her as a gesture of loyalty and gratitude for being a wonderful role model in providing encouragement to everyone, especially those who are in despair and drowning in sorrows because of their physical handicaps and disabilities, so that they may have the strength to overcome all obstacles and move forward in life as well as appreciate its value.

วิทยานิพนธ์หัวข้อ “ความผูกพันของฉันและยาย” เป็นการสร้างเอกภาพทางสุนทรียภาพสาระนามธรรมของนิยามคำว่า “ครอบครัว” ที่สื่อบริบทสายใยความสัมพันธ์ของความรัก ความผูกพันและความห่วงหาอันเป็นสัมพันธภาพที่มีระหว่างกันด้วยอารมณ์และสภาวะจิตใจที่เป็นหนึ่งเดียวที่ถักทอทบทวีร้อยเรียงกลายเป็นเรื่องราวแห่งภาษาของความงามที่สัมพันธ์กับความรู้สึกซึ่งได้สร้างรอยประทับลงในจิตใจรวมไปถึงรอยประทับแห่งการดำเนินชีวิตที่ประณีตงดงามไว้เป็นแบบอย่าง สายสัมพันธ์แห่งครอบครัวโดยนัยนี้จึงหมายรวมถึงกลุ่มคนที่อยู่ร่วมกัน มีปฏิสัมพันธ์ในบริบทแห่งความรักความผูกพันที่เริ่มจาก พ่อและแม่ ทว่าบางครอบครัวสายใยแห่งรักได้ถูกถ่ายทอดและสะท้อนดุลยภาพความกลมเกลียวแห่งความรู้สึกที่กอปรด้วยบุคคลอันเป็นที่รักของทั้งพ่อและแม่ นั่นก็คือ ปู่ ย่า ตาและยายหรือเป็นญาติทางสายโลหิตกันนั่นเอง สำหรับข้าพเจ้า “ยาย” สถานะแห่งเพศสภาพซึ่งเป็นบุพการีของ “แม่” ผู้หญิงนักสู้หัวใจแกร่งที่ประสบปัญหาทางกายภาพมาตั้งแต่กำเนิด ยายป่วยเป็นโรคโปลิโอจึงต้องอาศัยไม้เท้าเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญในการใช้ดำเนินชีวิต แม้กายภาพของยายในสายตาคนปกติทั่วไปจะดูเหมือนเป็นอุปสรรค แต่ยายก็มิได้แสดงความอ่อนแอหรือย่อท้อยอมแพ้ต่อทุกขเวทนาเผยออกมาให้เห็นเลยแม้แต่น้อย หากทว่ากลับกลายเป็นความเข้มแข็งที่คุ้นชินตาเป็นเสมือนคนปกติทั่วไป ยายเลี้ยงแม่ของข้าพเจ้าด้วยความรัก การพร่ำสอนและการบ่มเพาะอบรมสิ่งที่ดีงามซึ่งนัยนี้ได้ถูกถ่ายทอดมาสู่ข้าพเจ้า ผนวกกับคำสอนของยายที่ว่า “ค่าของคนมิได้อยู่ที่รูปลักษณ์ทางกายภาพและมนุษย์ทุกคนหามีใครที่สมบูรณ์แบบไม่ ทว่ามุมมองความคิดและทัศนคติต่างหากที่ทำให้ชีวิตมีคุณค่าและมีความสุขสงบที่จิตใจ” ประเด็นสาระเหล่านี้ล้วนเป็นเรื่องราวแห่งภาษาของอารมณ์ความรู้สึกหรือเป็นภาษาของความงามซึ่งเป็นนามธรรมแห่งจิตและเป็นภาษาของจิตใจอันเป็นเหตุปัจจัยที่โน้มน้าวสู่การสร้างจินตภาพที่สะท้อนภาพแทนแห่งจินตนาการ คือ ความประทับใจในห้วงเวลาและสถานที่หนึ่งซึ่งถูกนำมาผสมผสานเป็นเรื่องราวของเนื้อหา ความหมาย ความคิดและทัศนคติ จนก่อรูปเกิดเป็นรูปแบบเชิงรูปลักษณ์แห่งสายสัมพันธ์ของสายใย “ครอบครัว” ที่อาศัยภาษาของศิลปะเป็นเครื่องมือสร้างมิติลวงตาบนระนาบสองมิติหรือสร้างรูปธรรมแห่งรอยประทับในจิตใจด้วยกลวิธีทางทัศนศิลป์ซึ่งให้สัมฤทธิผลของการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะภาพพิมพ์ด้วยกระบวนการพิมพ์ภาพพิมพ์หน้าราบ (Planographic Printing Process) หรือเทคนิคภาพพิมพ์หิน (Lithograph) นั้นก่อเกิดกลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ทางเนื้อหาที่สื่อภาพ “สาระ” ความรู้สึกของสายใยแห่งรักอันเป็นสายสัมพันธ์ความผูกพันของครอบครัวที่สะท้อนนัยยะเรื่องราวจากประสบการณ์และวันเวลาที่ได้บ่มเพาะขัดเกลากลายเป็นความรู้สึกแห่งสำนึกในความคิดหรือความรู้สึกหวงแหนทะนุถนอมความสุขที่ประณีตงดงามและอบอุ่น ซึ่งเป็นนามธรรมของรอยประทับภาพแห่งความทรงจำระหว่างข้าพเจ้าและยายด้วยบริบทแวดล้อมเชิงสัญลักษณ์บนวิถีการดำเนินชีวิต “รูปแบบชีวิต” ที่อยู่ท่ามกลางบรรยากาศและการผสมผสานรูปทรงอันเป็นผลสัมฤทธิ์แห่งพลังของศิลปะจากทัศนธาตุจนก่อรูปเป็นเอกภาพทางสุนทรียภาพแห่งภาษาของความงดงามที่จิตใจอุปมาอุปไมยเปรียบเป็นเสมือนกระแสคลื่นแห่งความสะเทือนใจสะเทือนอารมณ์อันสื่อถึงบทบาทและตัวตนของเพศหญิงที่สังคมนิยามว่ามีความบกพร่องหรือทุพพลภาพด้วยรูปลักษณ์ หากแต่สามารถยืนหยัดดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในสังคมด้วยเกียรติและศักดิ์ศรีความเป็นมนุษย์ที่เข้มแข็งทั้งทางความคิดและจิตใจกอปรกับเพื่อยกย่องกตัญญูตอบแทนผู้มีพระคุณที่เป็นต้นแบบของการใช้ชีวิต หรือเพื่อสร้างแบบอย่างเชิงอนุสติให้กับเพื่อนมนุษย์ในสังคมที่กำลังประสบกับความท้อแท้ และสิ้นหวังเพียงแค่ความไม่สมบูรณ์ทางกายภาพซึ่งเป็นทุกขเวทนา ให้มีพลังและกำลังใจที่เข้มแข็งสามารถก้าวข้ามอุปสรรคเดินต่อไปอย่างมีจุดหมายอันเป็นชีวิตที่มีสาระและทรงคุณค่า
