Dystopia concept in a “Mise-en-scene”from The Handmaid’s Tale TV Series

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the “Mise-en-scène” layout using the following analytical criteria to convey meaning: 1) composition 2) Light and Dark 3) the shots 4) the angle 5) color 6) proxemics patterns 7) makeup and costumes 8) Setting, Props and symbol by analyzing each image, it does not have to be packed with complete information. Focus on studying only the main idea of the picture. Which communicates the concept of “dystopia” through the dystopian television series The Handmaid's Tale Season 1-3. By using a study method from the origin of the concept of dystopia. Then an analysis of the image placement was performed in the television series The Handmaid's Tale. The results of the study found that All three seasons of the series expressed the concept of dystopia by There are two forms of mise-en-scène. First, the image corresponds to the direct content is to present the emergence and continuation of a dystopian society.
