EFFECTS OF USING THE SQ5R TECHNIQUE TO ENHANCE ENGLISH READING COMPREHENTION OF GRADE 9 STUDENTS BY USING MORAL STORIES

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) compare the reading comprehension ability of grade 9 students before and after learning by using SQ5R technique and moral stories 2) study students’ opinion toward the SQ5R technique and moral stories. The samples were the students in grade 9/1 Phrapariyattidhamma Wat Sotornwararama School, 1st semester, academic year 2020 including 18 students obtained by cluster random sampling.

The instruments included 1) Reading comprehension learning plans by SQ5R technique and moral stories, 2) Tests on reading comprehension, 3) Satisfaction questionnaire toward using SQ5R technique and moral stories. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test Dependent Samples and content analysis.

The research results findings were as follows:

1) The posttest scores of the reading comprehension ability of grade 9 students after using SQ5R technique and moral stories were significantly higher than before using SQ5R technique and moral stories at significance level of .05.

2) The students’ opinions towards SQ5R technique and moral stories were at the high level.

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เพื่อเปรียบเทียบทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียน ก่อนและหลังใช้เทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R โดยใช้นิทานคุณธรรม 2) เพื่อศึกษาระดับความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อเทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัย คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3/1 โรงเรียนพระปริยัติธรรมวัดโสธรวราราม อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา ที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2563 จำนวน 18 รูป ได้มาด้วยวิธีการสุ่มแบบกลุ่ม (Cluster Random Sampling) โดยการจับฉลากโดยใช้ห้องเรียนเป็นหน่วยสุ่ม

เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ 1) แบบฝึกทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจด้วยเทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R โดยใช้นิทานคุณธรรม 2) แบบทดสอบวัดทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียน 3) แบบสอบถามความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อเทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าเฉลี่ย (x̄) และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D) และทดสอบค่าเฉลี่ยโดยการทดสอบค่า t แบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน (t-test dependent) และวิเคราะห์ระดับความพึงพอใจของนักเรียน โดยใช้การวิเคราะห์ค่าเฉลี่ย (x̄) และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D) จากนั้นนำผลการวิเคราะห์มานำเสนอในรูปแบบตารางและความเรียง

ผลวิจัย พบว่า

1. ทักษะการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 หลังจากการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R โดยใช้นิทาคุณธรรมสูงกว่าก่อนการจัดการเรียนรู้อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05

2. ความพึงพอใจของนักเรียนที่มีต่อการจัดการเรียนรู้ด้วยเทคนิคการอ่าน SQ5R โดยใช้นิทานคุณธรรม อยู่ในระดับมาก
