MALE GAZE CONCEPT IN ART DIRECTION FROM A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the concept of the male gaze in images from the movie A Clockwork Orange (1971), that is, as a means of presenting female images as a means of visual enjoyment. men's eyes and is characterized by being presented exclusively as a sexual object. This concept has been subject to observations and criticisms. From art history to contemporary media such as pictures, videos and movies. A study going back in history reveals that female nude painting was not idealized to represent only the beauty of the body. it is for visual and sexual pleasure. Likewise, movies made in the 1970s correspond to the social context where the concept of a counterculture has emerged that has caused a change in the way of life of people who are outside the norm within society. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: The scenes in A Clockwork Orange are portrayed as female characters who tend to act and respond to the needs of male characters. Including female characters being presented as sexual objects. which can be divided into 2 characteristics 1) in terms of the analysis of the composition of the image and the interpretation that presents the image that directly and clearly responds to the concept of the male gaze, such as image size and frame etc. 2) The form of power relations that appear through images and texts that correspond to Laura Mulvey's concept through home invasion and therapy scenes.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดการจ้องมองของผู้ชาย (Male Gaze) ในภาพที่ปรากฏจากภาพยนตร์เรื่อง A Clockwork Orange (1971) กล่าวคือเป็นวิธีการนำเสนอภาพผู้หญิงเพื่อเป็นสื่อสำหรับการมองดูเพื่อความเพลิดเพลินทางสายตาของผู้ชาย และมีลักษณะการนำเสนอเพื่อเป็นวัตถุทางเพศโดยเฉพาะ แนวคิดนี้ปรากฏถึงการตั้งข้อสังเกตรวมถึงการวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ ตั้งแต่ประวัติศาสตร์ศิลปะไปจนถึงสื่อร่วมสมัยเช่น รูปภาพ วิดีโอ รวมถึงภาพยนตร์ การศึกษาย้อนไปในประวัติศาสตร์ทำให้พบว่าจิตรกรรมภาพเปลือยผู้หญิงนั้นมิได้มีอุดมคติเพื่อแสดงความงดงามของร่างกายเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่เป็นไปเพื่อความเพลิดเพลินทางสายตาและเรื่องทางเพศ เช่นเดียวกันกับภาพยนตร์ที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นในช่วงทศวรรษที่ 1970 จะสอดคล้องกับบริบททางสังคมที่มีการเกิดขึ้นของแนวคิดวัฒนธรรมการต่อต้าน (Counter Culture) ที่ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางวิถีชีวิตของคนที่อยู่นอกเหนือบรรทัดฐานภายในสังคม ผลการศึกษาสามารถสรุปประเด็นที่สำคัญได้ดังนี้ ฉากในภาพยนตร์ A Clockwork Orange มีการนำเสนอภาพของตัวละครหญิงที่มักจะถูกกระทำและตอบรับความต้องการของตัวละครชายเสมอ รวมถึงตัวละครหญิงถูกนเสนอให้กลายเป็นวัตถุทางเพศ ซึ่งแบ่งออกได้เป็น 2 ลักษณะ 1) ในแง่ของการวิเคราะห์องค์ประกอบของภาพและการสื่อความหมายที่มีการนำเสนอภาพที่ตอบรับกับแนวคิดการจ้องมองของผู้ชายอย่างตรงไปตรงมาและชัดเจน เช่น ขนาดภาพและกรอบภาพเป็นต้น 2) รูปแบบความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจที่ปรากฏผ่านภาพและตัวบทที่สอดคล้องต่อแนวคิดของลอรา มัลวีย์ ผ่านฉากบุกบ้านและฉากการบำบัด
