POST - OCCUPANCY EVALUATION OF BENCHAKITTI FOREST PARK, BANGKOK

Abstract

Banjaktan Forest Park is the first public park in Thailand that incorporates the concept of an Urban Forest and is designed under the Sponge City framework. Its highlights include circular tree islands designed to retain and delay water, as well as a variety of plant species that serve as habitats for wildlife, resembling natural forest ecosystems. The park has garnered significant interest from the public, with many visitors. However, criticisms have emerged regarding the park's inability to fully satisfy visitors in terms of aesthetics.

The objective of this research is to study and evaluate the usage of Banjaktan Forest Park through physical surveys of the park and post-occupancy evaluations to understand user demographics, activities, and activity areas. The research found that users are divided into different age groups, including students, working-age adults, and the elderly, with both male and female users, as well as LGBTQ+ individuals. The age group that utilizes the park the most is between 15 and 40 years old, comprising students to working-age adults, with the most popular activities being exercise and recreation. The most utilized areas include wetlands, grassy fields, and Skywalk.

Overall, the public expresses a high level of satisfaction with the beauty and ambiance of Banjaktan Forest Park. While visitors are aware of environmental issues, they may not fully grasp the significance and value of the park. Nevertheless, the park's design as an urban forest offers promising solutions to urban environmental challenges. This research provides recommendations for the future design and development of public parks, particularly those adopting the urban forest concept, aiming to enhance public satisfaction and awareness.

สวนป่าเบญจกิติ เป็นสวนสาธารณะแห่งแรกในประเทศไทย ที่นำแนวคิดป่าในเมือง (Urban Forest) มาใช้ โดยออกแบบภายใต้แนวคิดเมืองฟองน้ำ (Sponge city) มีจุดเด่นคือ มีเกาะต้นไม้ทรงกลมเพื่อกักเก็บและหน่วงน้ำไว้ และมีพันธุ์ไม้หลากหลายชนิด เป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของสัตว์ พันธุ์พืชที่เจริญเติบโตเปรียบระบบนิเวศของป่า โดยประชาชนต่างให้ความสนใจ และเข้าใช้บริการเป็นจำนวนมาก โดยจากแนวคิดสวนป่า พืชพันธุ์ภายในสวนสาธารณะมีทั้งล้มตายหรือผลัดใบตามฤดูกาลของธรรมชาติ จึงได้เกิดเสียงวิพากย์วิจารณ์ของประชาชนถึงความงามยังไม่สามารถสร้างความพึงพอใจให้กับประชาชนผู้เข้าใช้บริการได้

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาและประเมินการใช้งานสวนป่าเบญจกิติ โดยทำการสำรวจข้อมูลทางกายภาพของสวนและทำการสังเกตการณ์เพื่อการประเมินหลังการใช้งาน (POST- OCCUPANCY EVALUATION) เพื่อศึกษากลุ่มผู้ใช้งาน ประเภทกิจกรรม และพื้นที่ในการประกอบกิจกรรม ผลการวิจัยพบว่า กลุ่มผู้ใช้งานแบ่งออกเป็น ช่วงอายุที่แตกต่าง ไม่ว่าจะเป็น กลุ่มนักเรียนนักศึกษา กลุ่มคนวัยทำงาน กลุ่มผู้สูงอายุ โดยมีทั้งเพศชาย หญิง และเพศทางเลือก กลุ่มที่ใช้งานมากที่สุดจะเป็นช่วงอายุ 15 – 40 ปี คือกลุ่มนักเรียน ไปจนถึงวัยทำงาน โดยกิจกรมที่นิยมที่สุดคือ การออกกำลังกายและท่องเที่ยว

โดยพื้นที่ใช้งานสูงสุดคือ พื้นที่ชุ่มน้ำ ลานหญ้าเอนกประสงค์ และทางเดินลอยฟ้าโดยประชาชนมีระดับความพึงพอใจมาก ในประเด็นความสวยงามและบรรยากาศของสวนป่าเบญจกิติ โดยประชาชนมีความตระหนักรู้ถึงปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อม แม้ประชาชนยังไม่ทราบถึงแนวและคิดคุณค่าของสวนป่าเบญจกิติ แต่นับว่าเป็นแนวโน้มที่ดีสำหรับการออกแบบสวนสาธารณะในรูปแบบสวนป่าที่มีส่วนในการแก้ไขปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมของเมือง ผลการวิจัยนี้จึงเป็นข้อเสนอแนะในการออกแบบและข้อมูลในการพัฒนาสวนสาธารณะในอนาคตที่กำลังจะเปิดบริการประชาชน เพื่อทราบถึงสวนสาธารณะในรูปแบบของสวนป่าในอนาคต ให้สามารถสร้างความพึงพอใจแก่ประชาชนได้ดียิ่งขึ้น
