Key Success Factors for organizing Events of the Thailand Sustainable Event Management Standard (TSEMS) 5 Stars Hotels in Bangkok

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) study the operations, approaches, methods, challenges, and obstacles of organizing business events at 5-star hotels accredited with Thailand Sustainable Event Management Standard (TSEMS), (2) study internal and external factors influencing the success of organizing business events at these accredited 5-star hotels, and (3) propose management guidelines for other hotels interested in obtaining TSEMS accreditation to enhance their business with MICE and events. This is a qualitative research collecting in-depth interview data from a sample group consisting of 10 high-level hotel managers and focus group 6 academic professionals. The analysis of both primary and secondary data aims to provide deep insights into the problems and recommendations for more effective hotel and event management.

The research findings reveal that all five hotels have similar approaches and methods, focusing on the importance of policy frameworks and sustainable strategies. However, they face challenges related to human resources such as staff shortages and staff development, as well as purchasing products from communities requiring appropriate planning. Internal and external factors influencing hotel business significantly, including organizational strategies, staff development, and political, economic, and tourism policy, necessitate hotels to adjust operations and policy frameworks for sustainable business. This research aims to offer effective management guidelines to enhance event and MICE business for hotels seeking TSEMS accreditation.

งานวิจัยนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) ศึกษาการดำเนินงาน แนวทาง วิธีการ ปัญหา อุปสรรค ของการจัดงานอีเวนต์เชิงธุรกิจของโรงแรม 5 ดาวที่ได้รับมาตรฐานทีเซ็ม (TSEMS) (2) ศึกษาปัจจัยภายในและภายนอกที่มีผลต่อความสำเร็จในการจัดงานอีเวนต์เชิงธุรกิจของโรงแรม 5 ดาวที่ได้รับมาตรฐานทีเซ็ม (TSEMS) และ (3) นำเสนอแนวทางในการบริหารจัดการธุรกิจโรงแรม 5 ดาว ที่ได้รับมาตรฐานทีเซ็ม (TSEMS) ให้แก่โรงแรมอื่น ๆ ที่ต้องการขอรับมาตรฐานทีเซ็ม (TSEMS) ในการต่อยอดธุรกิจไมซ์และอีเวนต์ โดยเป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เก็บข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกจากกลุ่มตัวอย่างในระดับผู้บริหารโรงแรมระดับสูงและระดับปฏิบัติการ จำนวน 10 ท่าน และการสนทนกลุ่มจากนักวิชาการ จำนวน 6 ท่าน จากนั้นทำการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลทั้งปฐมภูมิและทุติยภูมิ ซึ่งจะช่วยให้เกิดความเข้าใจที่ลึกซึ้งเกี่ยวกับปัญหาและข้อเสนอแนะในการจัดการโรงแรมและอีเวนต์ให้มีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น

ผลการวิจัยพบว่าทั้ง 5 โรงแรมมีแนวทางและวิธีการดำเนินงานที่ใกล้เคียงกัน โดยเน้นที่การให้ความสำคัญของการวางกรอบนโยบายและแนวทางด้านความยั่งยืน แต่พบปัญหาด้านบุคลากร เช่นการขาดแคลนพนักงานและการพัฒนาความรู้แก่พนักงาน รวมถึงการจัดซื้อสินค้าจากชุมชนที่ต้องการการวางแผนอย่างเหมาะสม เนื่องจากปัจจัยภายในและภายนอกที่มีผลต่อธุรกิจโรงแรมเป็นส่วนสำคัญ เช่น กลยุทธ์องค์กร การพัฒนาบุคลากร และสภาพการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ และนโยบายการท่องเที่ยว ทำให้โรงแรมต้องปรับการดำเนินงานและวางกรอบนโยบายอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพเพื่อให้ธุรกิจมีความยั่งยืน สามารถต่อยอดธุรกิจอีเวนต์และไมซ์ได้ดียิ่งขึ้น
