ชมพูบดีสูตรในจิตรกรรมฝาผนังช่วงพุทธศตวรรษที่ 24 - 25

Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อตรวจสอบจิตรกรรมฝาผนังเรื่องชมพูบดีสูตรในประเทศไทยและประเทศลาวในช่วงพุทธศตวรรษที่ 24 – 25 โดยมีการตรวจสอบการตีความที่ได้มีผู้ศึกษาไว้ก่อนและค้นคว้าเพิ่มเติมในประเด็นต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวกับฉากที่ปรากฏในงานจิตรกรรมฝาผนัง รวมถึงแนวคิดในการเขียนจิตรกรรมฝาผนังเรื่องนี้ลงในแหล่งต่าง ๆ เพื่อให้มีความสมบูรณ์ ผลการศึกษาทำให้พบประเด็นสำคัญใหม่ 4 ประเด็นได้แก่ 1. จิตรกรรมฝาผนังเรื่องชมพูบดีสูตรทั้งหมดมีแนวคิดในการเขียนต่างกัน ทั้งเพื่อแสดงคติพระจักรพรรดิราช เพื่อเทิดพระเกียรติพระมหากษัตริย์ เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับพระพุทธรูป เพื่อถวายเป็นพุทธบูชาและเพื่อใช้ในการสั่งสอน โดยเงื่อนไขสำคัญที่ส่งผลต่อการเขียนคือสถานที่ตั้งและประวัติของสถานที่นั้น ๆ 2. เนื่องจากเนื้อหาของวรรณกรรมมีความคล้ายคลึงกันมาก จึงพบความต่างเฉพาะฉากปลีกย่อยเท่านั้นอันเป็นผลมาจากเนื้อหาปลีกที่มีการให้รายละเอียดหรืออธิบายแตกต่างกัน 3. ช่างนิยมแสดงเรื่องราวในช่วงต้นไปจนถึงช่วงกลางของเรื่องชมพูบดีสูตรมากกว่าเรื่องในช่วงท้ายเพราะเป็นเนื้อหาที่มีความเป็นรูปธรรมมากกว่าทำให้แสดงออกในงานจิตรกรรมฝาผนังได้ง่ายต่างจากเนื้อหาในช่วงท้ายที่มีความเป็นนามธรรมมากกว่า 4. มีความนิยมในการแสดงฉากเมืองที่อลังการในฉากที่พระเจ้าชมพูบดีชมเมืองของพระเจ้าราชาธิราช โดยพบเฉพาะในกลุ่มของสถานที่ที่อุปถัมภ์โดยพระมหากษัตริย์ซึ่งอาจต้องการแสดงบ้านเมืองในอุดมคติหรือบ้านเมืองเมื่อครั้งยังรุ่งเรืองก็ได้

The purpose of this thesis is to study the story of Jambupati-sutra in the mural painting around 19th to 20th century in Thailand and Laos. This research aims to clarify the previous research and also studies some new information about the story show in the mural painting and the purpose of painting this story. The present research gives 4 new information. 1. There are many reasons behind this mural painting - to praise the king, to show the concept of "Emperor", to make it harmonize with the main sculpture, to do for their religious belief and for teaching. These depend on where the painting is and the history of that place. 2. Because the main story is nearly the same, so the difference is just some of the scene which is the result of story which is difference in detail and explaination 3. The artisan prefers to paint the first and middle part of the story more than the second part of this. The reason is because it is much easier to paint the touchable one than the untouchable. 4. Many of the places where this murals were painted prefer to paint the city of the king of kings (Rajathiraja) with all the supremacy especially the place that was built or sponsored by the king. The reason why they chose this story is to reflect their wishes of the prosperous city or the dream city or the time when their kingdom touch its highest status.
