Life in tapestry

Abstract

Insecurity becomes a part of my painful memory. In 2004, there was turmoil in the sourthernmost provinces of Thailand. The situation affected local people physically and mentally. Many innocent people were killed while some others lost their family members. They were devastated by losing their beloved ones and also their properties. The place where we call home fell into the state of alarm, anxiety and ambiguity.

I was born and grown up in Sai buri, Pattani, one of the three sourthernmost provinces where the disturbance was occurred. The terrified experience of living in the mist of political conflict of which we know nothing about has tracked me down ever since, so I would like to transform my fear into my own artistic language. I have collected pieces of local people’s clothes. I have started cutting, sewing, stretching, making patchwork and making tie-dyed on them. The technique represents innocent people who became the victims of the political unrest. Every piece symbolized all melancholy, frequent tortures, and personal experiences that imprint on memories of its owner, the memory that will take whole life time to die away.

ความหวาดกลัว คือสิ่งหนึ่งที่ถูกฝังอยู่ในความรู้สึกนึกคิดของข้าพเจ้า การดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ท่ามกลางสถานการณ์ความรุนแรงจากเหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบสามจังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ ที่เกิดขึ้นในปีพ.ศ. 2547 มาถึงปัจจุบัน ตลอดระยะเวลา 14 ปี บนพื้นที่อันเป็นถิ่นฐานบ้านเกิด อำเภอสายบุรี จังหวัดปัตตานี เหตุการณ์ได้ก่อให้เกิดความสูญเสียต่อชีวิตและทรัพย์สินของประชาชน ทั้งยังส่งผลกระทบต่อความรู้สึกของคนในท้องถิ่น ความหวาดระแวง ความรู้สึกคลุมเครือ และทุกข์ทรมานจากความไม่แน่นอนต่อชะตากรรมของตนและคนใกล้ชิด ชีวิตที่ต้องดำรงอยู่ท่ามกลางความขัดแย้งทางสังคมและการเมืองที่ตนมิได้เป็นผู้ก่อ เป็นเหตุให้ข้าพเจ้าต้องการถ่ายทอดความรู้สึกนี้ผ่านภาษาทางศิลปะที่สร้างขึ้นจากการนำชิ้นส่วนเสื้อผ้าที่ใช้แล้วของผู้คนในพื้นที่ มาตัดเย็บ ขึง ตรึงบนผืนผ้าที่ถูกย้อมทับด้วยสี เพื่อเป็นภาพแทนความจริงของชีวิตผู้คนที่ต้องทนทุกข์ทรมาน อยู่กับความเจ็บปวดซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า เป็นภาพชีวิตที่มีบาดแผลของความขัดแย้งรุนแรงประทับอยู่อย่างถาวร ยากที่จะลบเลือน
