A Development of thai materials waste to creative craft.

Abstract

This study aims to find the creative solution to to recycle the waste left by the process of making Thai handicrafts. As the response to fast consumption trend in recent years defined by series of product launches to catch up with seem-to-ever-change customer need fueled by influencers in social media, companies produce excessively just to satisfy customers only for a while, resulting in short-lived goods that end up as massive waste.

My focus get to waste from Thai handicraft production which we would refer as Watsadu Thai (Thai material). Thai handicrafts are the pride of Thai people since they reflect the generations of

local wisdom and culture through material selection, craft production and Thai patterns. Thus, they are substantially sought after by Thai and the rest of the world. In a year, a large number of the handicrafts are produced in response to huge demand. Unfortunately, tons of waste are created from the handicraft production. To tackle this, we went to the local handicraft community in Bangkok and worked with them to design creative products from the leftover from the handicraft making. I studied the leftover on its physical properties as well as the community where it came from. Based on the up-cycling concept, we experimented with the material to bring out the hidden aesthetic values without using industrial technology but emphasis on the local wisdom of the handicraft community. As a result, we would find a way to give it a new form, a new function and new aesthetics leaving no traces to its past.

I ultimately believed that the my study would help the local handicraft communities as a whole by giving them the framework to recycle the leftover from handicraft making into creative and unique products reflecting the stories and wisdom of the local craft mans of the communities.

บทความนี้เป็นการศึกษาการต่อยอดการใช้เศษวัสดุที่ได้จากกระบวนการหัตกรรมไทย ด้วยเล็งเห็นที่มาจากสถานการณ์และปัญหาขยะล้นเมือง ซึ่งกำลังเป็นที่สนใจทั่วโลก และเป็นปัจจัยที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อการดำเนินชีวิตทั้งในด้านสังคม เศรษฐกิจ และสิ่งแวดล้อม ด้วยในปัจจุบันนี้โรงงานผู้ผลิต ปรับเปลี่ยนรูปแบบการผลิตให้เข้ากับยุคสมัย โดยขาดการคำนึงถึงคุณภาพและผลกระทบที่จะตามมา ทำให้ผลิตผลที่ได้จากกระบวนการผลิต มีอายุการใช้งานที่สั้นลง และกลายเป็นขยะในที่สุด โดยในการวิจัยนี้ ผู้วิจัยมุ่งเน้นการศึกษาไปที่วัสดุเหลือใช้จากงานหัตถกรรมไทยหรือเรียกสั้นๆ ว่าวัสดุไทย ด้วยสาเหตุว่า ประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศที่ทั่วโลกให้การยอมรับในเรื่องของการผลิตผลงานหัตถกรรม จึงเป็นไปได้ว่าจะต้องมีเศษวัสดุที่เหลือจากกระบวนการผลิตงานหัตถกรรมไทยเป็นจำนวนมากเช่นกัน โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ในการทำวิจัยคือ (1) ศึกษาเศษวัสดุที่ได้จากการทำหัตถกรรม เพื่อนำไปทดลองหาวิธีการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มอย่างสร้างสรรค์ (2) ศึกษาพื้นที่ชุมชนแหล่งที่มาของเศษวัสดุนั้นๆ (3) นำเศษวัสดุเหล่านั้นไปออกแบบเป็นผลงานสร้างสรรค์ที่สามารถสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับเศษวัสดุได้

การวิจัยนี้จะเริ่มศึกษาตั้งแต่เศษวัสดุตั้งต้น ชุมชนที่มาของเศษวัสดุตั้งต้น แหล่งท่องเที่ยวหรือสถานที่สำคัญที่เกี่ยวข้องกับชุมชน ไปจนถึงการนำเศษวัสดุที่ได้จากชุมชน ไปทดลองแปรสภาพให้เกิดการใช้งานรูปแบบใหม่ และผลลัพธ์ด้านความงามที่ต่างจากเดิม โดยการทดลองแปรสภาพนี้มีเงื่อนไขที่สำคัญคือใช้แนวคิดวิธีการ อัพไซคลิ่ง (upcycling) มาสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับเศษวัสดุและไม่พึ่งพาเทคโนโลยีต่างๆ แต่จะอ้างอิงจากกระบวนการ ความรู้ และภูมิปัญญาที่มีเฉพาะในชุมชนต้นกำเนิดเศษวัสดุ การทดลองเหล่านี้ จะนำไปสู่ข้อค้นพบในเรื่องของการประยุกต์ และต่อยอดการใช้งานเชิงสร้างสรรค์กับเศษวัสดุในหัตถกรรมไทย ให้มีลักษณะทางด้านความงามที่แตกต่างไปจากวัสดุตั้งต้นโดยสิ้นเชิง การใช้งานที่เปลี่ยนไปและสุดท้ายคือการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มได้ด้วยคุณสมบัติของตัววัสดุเองจนไม่คาดคิดว่าเป็นเศษวัสดุ

การสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับเศษวัสดุในหัตถกรรมไทยจากการวิจัยนี้ สามารถขยายผลได้ด้วยการนำไปใช้กับพื้นที่ชุมชนอื่นๆแต่ละภูมิภาคของประเทศไทยที่มีการประกอบอาชีพทำหัตถกรรม ซึ่งจะมีเศษวัสดุที่ได้จากกระบวนการหัตถกรรมไทยที่แตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละพื้นที่ และจะนำไปสู่ผลลัพธ์ในการออกแบบผลงานสร้างสรรค์ที่แตกต่างกันออกไปตามประวัติศาสตร์ความเป็นมา, ภูมิปัญญาที่มีในชุมชน , ความสามารถของช่างฝีมือในชุมชน , เอกลักษณ์และอัตลักษณ์ของท้องถิ่นนั้นๆ
