THE LIGHT OF LIFE POWER

Abstract

This thesis aims to study characteristics of natural light which influences natural ecosystem as light promotes emotion and feelings of the mind. It also provides balance and peace as inner concentration besides being internally and externally useful for humans and animals. Following the basis, the creator therefore interpreted and represented light in the form of inventive work which is semi-abstract and concrete reality.

The study of creation processes began with exploring light at dusk, natural light produced by fireflies as well as values of light theory according to the Zone System to understand natural phenomena. It also studied creation processes for art work made by artists on light and flora, namely Surasit Saokong, Boonmee Sangkum, HisashiI Kurachi, Ansel Adams, and Hamaguchi Yozo. Then, an individual art work was created, using forms of flora found in the natural ecosystem in comparison with light intensity according to the Zone System until a digital painting form of art was achieved. Such visual art conveys semi-abstract characteristics, employing natural figures for new creation as various shapes were truncated until a new beautiful form exists and exudes emotion and feelings of natural power. The creator’s work is totally black and white, highlighting weight of all objects. The work depicts natural landscape, flora and light expresses harmony and contradiction shown in itself and shadows. In terms of existing light, the creator used computer drawing techniques to format the work and create black and white intensity. The creator compared light intensity following the Zone System, dividing it into 10 zones. Measuring light values with computer-based systems, the creator was able to create work of softness. Besides, the creator used black pencil techniques to enhance details of different parts until intensity is clearer, resulting in technically completed pictures. Use of black and white shows existing natural beauty and purity apart from promoting free imagination and expressing immortality and feelings of mystery in nature itself. Initial use of black and white by the creator showed the thought of philosophical principles as real objects without elaboration resembles painting in Taoism or Zen. After observing natural conditions and studying theories of sunrise and sunset lights, the creator realized that lights at dusk and dawn showed the fact of complete ecosystem.

The results from the research and creation reflect knowledge about which life is impermanent as it consists of happiness and suffering according to natural cycles. The twilight time before the evening is the period that inspired the creator to gain enlightened thoughts to produce a work that shows light and colors at dusk in black and white. Transformation of colors into black and white enables viewers to understand the truth of life and how to live only in the present.

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ต้องการศึกษาลักษณะของแสงในธรรมชาติ ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อระบบนิเวศทางธรรมชาติ แสงยังช่วยสร้างอารมณ์และความรู้สึกต่างๆในจิตใจ อีกทั้งให้ความสมดุล ให้ความสงบสว่างเป็นสมาธิภายใน และยังให้คุณประโยชน์กับมนุษย์และสัตว์ ทั้งภายในและภายนอก จากกฎเกณฑ์ดังกล่าว ผู้สร้างสรรค์จึงได้ตีความแทนค่าเป็นผลงานสร้างสรรค์ในลักษณะกึ่งนามธรรม และความเป็นจริงทางรูปธรรม

วิธีการศึกษาวิจัยกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ เริ่มต้นด้วยการศึกษาแสงสนธยา แสงของหิ่งห้อยในธรรมชาติ รวมทั้งศึกษาค่าทฤษฎีแสงในแบบระบบ Zone System เพื่อทำความเข้าใจในปรากฏการณ์ทางธรรมชาติ ศึกษากระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะของศิลปินที่ทำงานเกี่ยวกับเรื่องแสงและพันธุ์ไม้ เช่น สุรสิทธิ์ เสาว์คง, บุญมี แสงขำ, ฮิสะชิ คุระจิ, แอนเซล อดัมส์ และ ฮะมะกุจิ โยะโซะ จากนั้น ได้ทำการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะของตนเอง ด้วยการใช้รูปแบบของพันธุ์ไม้ระบบนิเวศในธรรมชาติ เปรียบเทียบกับน้ำหนักของแสงในแบบระบบ Zone System ออกมาในรูปแบบผลงานจิตรกรรมดิจิทัล ผลงานทัศนศิลป์ได้ถ่ายทอดเป็นลักษณะผลงานกึ่งนามธรรม ที่ใช้ลักษณะรูปทรงทางธรรมชาตินำมาประกอบสร้างใหม่ขึ้น โดยนำลักษณะของรูปทรงมาตัดทอนทำให้เกิดรูปทรงที่สวยงาม และเกิดอารมณ์ความรู้สึกถึงพลังของธรรมชาติ ผลงานของผู้สร้างสรรค์มีลักษณะของสีที่เป็นภาพขาวดำทั้งภาพ มีการสร้างน้ำหนักของวัตถุ โดยมีรูปแบบเป็นภาพในลักษณะของทิวทัศน์ธรรมชาติ พันธุ์ไม้ และแสงสว่าง แสดงออกถึงความกลมกลืน และความขัดแย้งในแสงเงา ลักษณะของแสงที่เกิดขึ้น ผู้สร้างสรรค์ได้ใช้เทคนิค การวาดภาพด้วยระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ นำมาจัดรูปแบบผลงาน และสร้างน้ำหนักขาวดำ โดยผู้สร้างสรรค์เปรียบเทียบค่าน้ำหนักของแสงในระบบ Zone System แบ่งค่าน้ำหนักเป็น 10 โซน เป็นการวัดค่าแสงด้วยระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ ทำให้ผลงานของผู้สร้างสรรค์เกิดความนุ่มนวล รวมถึงผู้สร้างสรรค์ได้ใช้เทคนิคดินสอดำ เพื่อเพิ่มรายละเอียดในส่วนต่างๆ ให้มีความชัดเจนของน้ำหนักมากขึ้น ทำให้ภาพเกิดความสมบูรณ์ในด้านเทคนิค การใช้แสงสีขาวดำแสดงให้เห็นถึงความบริสุทธิ์ความงามจริงแท้ของธรรมชาติที่มีอยู่จริงและยังทำให้เกิดจินตนาการความคิดที่อิสระและยังสื่อถึงความเป็นอมตะแสดงความรู้สึกถึงความลึกลับภายในธรรมชาติ การใช้แสงสีขาวดำในระยะแรกของผู้สร้างสรรค์เป็นการนึกถึงหลักปรัชญา ความเป็นจริงของรูปทรงโดยที่ไม่มีการปรุงแต่ง คล้ายกับภาพเขียนของเต่าหรือเซนหลังจากที่ผู้สร้างสรรค์ได้สังเกตสภาวะทางธรรมชาติได้ศึกษาทฤษฎีในช่วงแสงพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นและตกดิน จึงทำให้ผู้สร้างสรรค์ตระหนักรู้ถึงแสงยามโพล้เพล้และยามเช้าแสดงให้เห็นข้อเท็จจริงในระบบนิเวศที่สมบูรณ์

ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้จากการวิจัยและสร้างสรรค์ ทำให้เกิดองค์ความรู้สะท้อนชีวิตที่ไม่จีรัง ที่มีทั้งสุขและทุกข์ หมุนเวียนตามวัฏจักรธรรมชาติ ในช่วงเวลาสนธยาใกล้พบค่ำจึงเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้ผู้สร้างสรรค์เกิดตกผลึกทางความคิดผลงานแสดงสีสันในยามสนธยา ให้เกิดเป็นค่าน้ำหนักขาว-ดำ เป็นการแสดงค่าของสีกลับกลายเป็นขาว-ดำ ทำให้ผู้ชมได้เห็นถึงความจริงของชีวิตและการอยู่กับปัจจุบันขณะ
