Enhancing English Reading Comprehension Ability Using Collaborative Strategy Reading (CSR) for Grade 10 Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare English reading comprehension ability of grade 10 students before and after being exposed to Collaborative Strategy Reading, and 2) survey the students’ opinions toward learning by using Collaborative Strategy Reading. The participants were 32 grade 10 students of the English for Business Program who studied E31101 English1 Subject in the first semester of the academic year 2023 chosen by simple random sampling by class. The instruments used for this research consisted of: 1) a reading interest survey, 2) four lesson plans using Collaborative Strategy Reading, 3) a test of English reading comprehension ability, and 4) a questionnaire used for surveying the students’ opinions toward learning by using Collaborative Strategy Reading. The statistics used for data analysis included mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test.

The results of the study were as follows: 1) The students’ English reading comprehension ability after being exposed to Collaborative Strategy Reading was significantly higher than before the exposure at a significance level of .05 2)The overall opinion of the students toward Collaborative Strategy Reading was at a high level.

งานวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) เปรียบเทียบความสามารถการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 ก่อนและหลังเรียนด้วยกลวิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ 2) ศึกษาความคิดเห็น ของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 ที่มีต่อกลวิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ กลุ่มตัวอย่างในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 ห้อง 2 แผนการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษธุรกิจ จำนวน 32 คน ที่เรียนรายวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ1 (อ31101) ในภาคเรียนที่ 1/2566 โดยได้มาจากการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบง่าย (Simple Random Sampling) โดยใช้ห้องเรียนเป็นหน่วยในการสุ่ม เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ 1) แบบสำรวจความต้องการหัวข้อบทอ่าน 2) แผนการจัดการเรียนรู้การสอนอ่านเพื่อความเข้าใจโดยใช้กลิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ 3) แบบทดสอบวัดความสามารถการอ่านเพื่อความเข้าใจ 4) แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นของนักเรียนที่มีต่อกลวิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล คือ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และค่าสถิติทดสอบ t แบบไม่เป็นอิสระต่อกัน

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1) ความสามารถการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อความเข้าใจของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 หลังเรียนสูงกว่าเรียนด้วยกลวิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 2) นักเรียนระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 4 มีความคิดเห็นต่อกลวิธีการอ่านแบบร่วมมือ อยู่ในระดับ ความคิดเห็นด้วย มาก
